Tektronix (www.tek.com) has announced that it has included two new high-performing passive probes as accessories for its DSO/MSO5000B and DSO/MSO4000B midrange oscilloscopes. The company’s TPP0850 probes, which are available at $750, deliver a bandwidth of 800 MHz compared to the 500 MHz bandwidth provided by other passive probes. These new passive probes can be utilized with voltages up to 2500 VP-P. At levels up to 1200 VRMS, the probes can also be used to measure AC voltages. The probes have been specifically designed to provide high voltage/bandwidth to allow users to measure the rising and falling of edges on switch-mode power supplies and power semiconductors.
Tektronix TPP0502 is a passive probe offered at $585. It produces a bandwidth of 500 MHz and provides 2x attenuation factor, which allows users to see noise and ripple on power-supply outputs while having the full view of the full output voltage. Its two- MΩ, 12.7-pF input impedance reduces circuit loading, which also minimizes its effect on the signals.
Both of these new probes use the TekVPI interface that offers digital compensation to enable users to match the impedance of the probe to the oscilloscope. Performing a digital compensation takes about five seconds and while users is performing this, the probe stays matched to the oscilloscope since the compensation factors are stored in it. The probe provides no trimmer capacitors.
