Kyle Vogt, co-founder, president, and chief technology officer of Cruise, will deliver a keynote presentation at the Robotics Summit & Expo. The international event is focused on the technical issues involved with the design, development, manufacture, and delivery of commercial robots. The Robotics Summit & Expo takes place June 5-6 at the Seaport World Trade Center in Boston.
Cruise is a world-leading self-driving technology company headquartered in San Francisco. Operating a fleet of all-electric, self-driving cars on the streets of San Francisco, Cruise vehicles navigate some of the most challenging and unpredictable driving environments to expose them to the same unique and complex traffic scenarios human drivers face every day.
Vogt’s keynote on June 6 at 9:30 a.m., “Why Precision Maps Are Actually a Really Good Idea,” will cover the benefits of using maps and other priors to achieve superhuman performance of self-driving cars. He will discuss both sides of the great HD Maps Debate, describe why maps improve self-driving car safety, and explain how many of the perceived limitations or considerations can be overcome. Vogt will also address the issue of collecting maps at scale, handling map changes, and dealing with the “first responder” problem for self-driving cars.
Vogt co-founded Cruise in 2013. Under the leadership of Vogt and co-founder Dan Kan, Cruise developed the world’s first all-electric fleet of self-driving cars. Vogt’s interest in self-driving technology stems from competing in Battlebots at an early age. By 14 years old, he had built his first self-driving prototype out of a Power Wheels car.
A native of Kansas City, Kan., Vogt studied computer science and electrical engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. At MIT, Vogt worked on the DARPA Grand Challenge, for which he co-led a team to retrofit a Ford F-150 with drive-by-wire capability and sensors. Prior to Cruise, Vogt co-founded Twitch (acquired by Amazon), Socialcam (acquired by Autodesk), and Justin.tv.
The Robotics Summit & Expo will feature 70-plus exhibitors, 60-plus speakers, AWS RoboMaker Immersion Day, the Future of Mechatronics and Robotics Engineering Workshop, the MassRobotics Engineering Career Fair networking receptions and more fun surprises. Full conference passes are $595, while expo-only passes are just $50. Academic discounts are available, and academic full conference rates are $295.
Founded and headquartered in San Francisco, with offices in Seattle, Pasadena, and Phoenix, Cruise is building the world’s most advanced self-driving, all-electric vehicles that safely connect people to the places, things, and experiences they care about. Visit getcruise.com to learn more.
