Tektronix, Inc. announced availability of the industry’s only one-box solution for physical and protocol compliance testing for the latest Mobile High-Definition Link (MHL) Compliance Test Specification (CTS) 2.1 covering transmitter (Tx), receiver (Rx), dongle and cable testing for both physical (PHY) and protocol layers.
The MHL specification was developed by Nokia Corporation, Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., Silicon Image, Inc., Sony Corporation, and Toshiba Corporation as a standard for connecting mobile phones and portable devices to HDTVs and large displays. MHL technology enables mobile devices to output home theatre quality video and digital audio to HD displays while simultaneously charging the device. MHL-enabled products include smartphones, tablets, DTVs, TV accessories, Blu-ray Disc players, audio / video (AV) receivers, monitors, projectors, adapters, automotive accessories, cables, and more. The new MHL CTS 2.1 specification adds direct attach device testing and cable tests while introducing new test methods for data eye diagram and clock jitter tests, all supported by Tektronix.
Tektronix’s innovative MHL protocol analyzer software leverages the same Tektronix real-time oscilloscope, such as a DPO/DSA/MSO70000 Series, used for physical layer testing to provide a complete MHL protocol test solution. This one box solution enables a seamless transition between physical and link layers.
Testing efficiency is further enhanced with direct synthesis-based Rx and dongle testing that provides accurate MHL signal generation including all of the impairments necessary to meet MHL CTS 2.1 requirements. The direct synthesis solution provides easier, more repeatable test set-ups and lower cost compared to complex sink-based solutions for generating signal impairments.
